AquaTots   

0-3 years with an adult

Water exploration and safety for parents and children under 3 years old. Parents will become comfortable holding their child in different positions to facilitate kicking, arm scoops, blowing bubbles and back floating. If the child is ready, we may introduce full submersion and independent swimming skills with and without a flotation device. Emphasis is on following the rules of the pool and other safety measures. Most importantly, teaching the child that water exploration is fun and safety is number one!

Water Safety at Home: Never leave your child with a caregiver who doesn't know how to swim if there is a pool around.   Never leave your child unsupervised in the bath.  Dangers of toilets, buckets and kiddie pools.  Safe flotation devices.  Learn CPR

Aquakids Little Beginner   

This is for children who have been through our Aquatot program and are ready to transition to group lessons without a parent or guardian in the water with them. Your child will learn how to blow bubbles, fully submerging their face, basic kicking, arm strokes, back floating, entering and exiting the water safely and independently, as well as basic water safety. We will be working on independent swimming skills with and without a flotation device.

This class is geared towards children ages 2-3. Criteria for joining the Little Beginner class is the ability to sit on the steps safely, follow simple instructions and wait for his/her turn.

Water Safety at the Pool: Always swim with an adult in the water, stay on the steps until it is your turn, spit water out if it gets in your mouth. Who is the lifeguard and what do they do? Toes on the edge when jumping. No running or horseplay on the pool deck. Call for help if you see someone is struggling in the pool.  Swimming fully clothed without goggles.

AquaBasics 1   

The swimmer will learn how to exhale underwater, fully submerging their face, basic kicking, arm strokes, back floating, entering and exiting the water safely and independently, as well as basic water safety. We will introduce full submersion and independent swimming skills with and without a flotation device.

Criteria for joining AquaBasics 1 class is the ability to sit on the steps safely, follow simple instructions and wait for his/her turn.

Safety around the pool: Always swim with an adult in the water with you. Never swim alone. Never reach for a toy in the pool. Tell an adult if someone needs help in the water. Who is the lifeguard and what do they do? No running or horseplay on the pool deck.

​AquaDevelop 1  

Swimmers will be introduced how to breathe to the side, backstroke and independent swimming for greater distances. Treading water and deep water safety will be covered.

Criteria for joining the AquaDevelop 1 class are that children are swimming with their face in the water for at least 5 feet. They must also be able to back float independently for at least 5 seconds.

Water Safety on a Boat:  Always wear a Coast Guard approved life jacket on a boat and dock (even if you know how to swim).  Make sure a responsible adult is operating the boat. Do not stand on a small boat, it can tip over.  Do not sit on the bow of a boat. Return to shore when there is threat of a storm.  Swimming fully clothed without goggles.

AquaRefine 1   

Children are swimming at least 1/2 of the pool with the face in the water using both crawl and backstroke. Additional refinement of swim skills will be covered. Your child will be improving his or her endurance and confidence in the pool. Breaststroke and diving in the deep water will be introduced.

Criteria for joining the AquaRefine 1 class are having the ability to swim at least ½ of the pool using both crawl and backstroke. They must perform crawl stroke using side breathing, tread water for at least 20 seconds and jump into the pool independently at middle depth.

 

Water Safety at the Beach:  Check the flags to see if it is safe to swim.  If the water looks dangerous do not swim.  Always swim with a buddy. How to swim out of a rip current.  Swimming fully clothed without goggles.

 

Aquakids Preteam   

Children will refine their skills in freestyle and backstroke in addition to being introduced to breaststroke, butterfly. Swimmers will learn how to do deep water and racing dives. Flip turns and open turns will be introduced.

Criteria for Pre-Swim Team is that children are swimming the full length of the pool independently in both crawl stroke and backstroke. They must be comfortable and competent in deep water and tread for at least 1 minute.

Safety: Water Safety in Rivers, Lakes and Dams:  Always obey warning signs.  Swim with a buddy.  Rivers can have strong currents and hidden dangers (including waterfalls).  Never dive in a murky lake or shallow water.  Swimming fully clothed without goggles.
