We now have S.O.A.P!!! (Strategies for Overcoming Aquatic Phobias)

Aquabilities is proud to welcome Jeff Krieger, the founder of the S.O.A.P. program, to provide this wonderful service to any person who has fear of the water. His approach is extremely successful and has changed the lives of so many (now) swimmers! Please check out an article that he wrote in our blog at www.aquabilitieswithjennifer.blogspot.com. Please email us for more information if you or someone you know wants to wash away their fear of the water with S.O.A.P!

Introducing WATSU! (Shiatsu in the water)

We would also like to welcome Shiri Sarid, who was trained in this relaxing aquatic therapeutic technique, to our program! Watsu (Shiatsu in Water) is a way to find relief from pain, maintain (or improve) the range of motion in their joints or relief muscles or recover from physical trauma. Others will come to enjoy the relaxation and meditative qualities of the treatment. Receivers of Watsu treatment report a wide range of benefits from reduced pain, anxiety or stress, through increased flexibility, relaxation and deeper breathing to a general sense of well being. Please email us for more information.

WE BROKE THE WORLD RECORD!!!!

The World's Largest Swimming Lesson™

Aquabilities with Jennifer along with other top water safety and training organizations joined forces to present The World's Largest Swimming Lesson™ (WLSL) on Tuesday, June 14, 2011. The goal of this worldwide event was to build awareness about the vital importance of teaching children and adults to swim to help prevent drowning. On June 14th, waterparks, pools and other aquatic facilities around the globe hosted local WLSL lessons simultaneously at 11am ET (3pm GMT) and broke the Guinness World Record! Thanks to all who helped make this possible! See our gallery for pictures from this event.

Information For New Swimmers:

Our main pool site is located in the Whitehall Building at 3333 Henry Hudson Parkway. It is easiest to go through the back (Independence Ave entrance) where there is more parking. You will see a green awning at the base of the walkway into the building. Once you reach the security guard, make a right (they can also guide you) and we are right down the hall. There are locker rooms to change in and you will meet the instructor on deck.

Please bring a towel with you and goggles if you would like them. We may have a pair if you need to borrow. All children under 2 or who are not potty trained must wear a swim diaper. All swimmers must wear a bathing cap. We sell them for $10 on deck if you need one.

If you have any questions at all, please let us know! Your feedback is always appreciated!

NOTICE: Whitehall Policies

The Whitehall has the following policies in order to ensure a safe and clean pool environment:

* All swimmers must check in at the front desk (this is how we keep attendance)

* All swimmers are required to wear a swim cap (we sell a variety of swim caps on deck for $10 if you need one)

* Street shoes are not allowed on the pool deck in order to minimize bacteria from getting on bare feet. Please bring inside flip flops. Cubbies are provided for street shoes on the deck.

* Please do not bring food into the pool area as it attracts bugs. You may eat at the tables along the side wall

* Please limit only one parent or guardian per child on deck during lessons

* Please come to lessons no earlier than 15 minutes before your scheduled lesson time. Swimmers may not enter the pool until their lesson has begun.

* If your child is not potty trained, please be sure that they are wearing a swim diaper. If your child has diarrhea or is sick, please keep them home. If they have a bowel movement or vomit in the pool, the pool will need to closed for the remainder of the day for sanitation.

* Once your child's lesson is finished, please promptly leave the pool area (unless the child is a member of the Whitehall Club or you have paid the guest fee). Siblings are not permitted to swim unless they are members of the club.

Other helpful hints:

* The more your child practices outside of lessons, the quicker they will learn to swim (If you wish, you may contact the Whitehall Club for membership information or pay a guest fee on a daily basis in order to practice)

* You are welcome to watch your child's lesson from the lounge chairs only. This will help you to carry over some of the skills that they are learning and techniques that we are using with them (even if it is only in the bathtub!). It can be distracting to the swimmers when parents sit poolside.

* Goggles are not required but are helpful for getting your child comfortable with putting their face in the water. (If you would like them, we sell these on deck for $15)

* We like to keep our environment as positive as possible. Children (and adults) are really motivated by positive feedback. Talk with your children about their lessons and offer lots of praise for their accomplishments
and encouragement for working through what challenges them.

* SAFETY FIRST!!! Another reason to watch the lessons is to be sure your child is safe. We have saved more kids from slipping off of the steps. It can happen in the blink of an eye. It can't hurt to have an extra set of eyes on the look out.

* Please feel free to contact us with any questions, concerns or feedback that will help your child excel in our swim program. This is a team effort!

* All classes will be held at The Whitehall Club. The address is 3333 Henry Hudson Parkway Bronx, NY 10463. The best way to enter is through the Independence Avenue entrance behind the building. Please allow time for parking.

* There are locker rooms with showers for your convenience downstairs. If all of the lockers are occupied, please bring your belongings up to the pool deck. Please be sure your child has used the restroom before class to minimize interruption during the lesson.

* Please jot down the dates of this session on your calendar. All holidays were considered when making the schedule. We allow one makeup per session, (unless there is a medical emergency and a doctor's note is provided.) If you know you will be away, please let us know in advance so that we can schedule a makeup class for you.

Thank you so much helping keep our pool clean! If you have any questions about these policies, please see the Whitehall management. Thanks!
